Go the XPeria way…

Happy New Year to all my readers ! Sorry for the long delay between posts….so here we go for 2013…

Sony Xperia goA month back my nephew who is studying in college went ahead and bought a Sony XPeria Go (ST27i) , its most notable feature being its ruggedness – water / dust resistant and scratch proof to endure the rough and tumble of college days. So I got quite a bit of time with it, and found the fit and finish perfect a hallmark of Sony Products (middle & higher end product atleast). The rubbery and matte black finish with its slim profile was a joy to hold in the hand and its quite light weight. Even though the 3.5″ screen was only of 320×480 resolution the screen brightness with the Bravia engine was nice and pleasant to look at. The text were crisp and sharp to read and the Xperia Launcher over the Android 2.3 Gingerbread was excellent and easy to use. (FYI: ICS is currently available and JellyBean should arrive by March as per Sony’s official news).

Inside the Go a dual core processor(NovaThor U8500-Cortex A9) with 512 MB RAM makes it pretty quick to use and launch various apps & games to work with. The 5 megapixel back camera with autofocus and flash did a good job of shooting pics and videos. But in dull lighting conditons it struggled but it came out ok. The Mail 400 graphics helped out with the games. Tried Temple Run which ran without a hitch. The non-removable 1305 mAh battery came to 1.5 days with texting, calling and some games and internet. So with heavy usage it might come for only one day which is another downer.

So for around 17K INR it’s a phone made for the outdoor life with decent enough specs and a jellybean update on the way (hopefully). Lack of front camera, low RAM (anything below 1GB won’t be enough for the future) and a small battery are some of the cons….
