Asha 311 – Smart/Feature phone

Before I start writing this post, I should warn my readers this phone –  Nokia Asha 311 , many of you might feel irrelevant in this smartphone world where 100 USD will get a entry level android smartphone. But for those who are loyal to Nokia’s feature phones with keypad or want a no non-sense simple phone with big enough screen and looking to do mainly calling and texting, and don’t want to burn your hard earned money on phones this could be a ideal choice.

Nokia Asha 311kia First and foremost when phone screen sizes are going way north above 5″ territory this phone has a measly 3″ screen with a screen resolution of 240  x 400 pixels (155 ppi). On the other hand this makes the phone very handy with dimensions of 106 x 52 x 12.9 mm and lightweight at 95 grams. The screen looks dim and washed out in terms of current day smartphone standards but those who are migrating from a keypad phone should find it good enough.

Powered by 1 Ghz processor and running a version of Series 40 Asha Touch OS the icons are big, bright and touch friendly and the main screen has shortcuts to some app and side scrolling once takes to the inner screen of various apps shortcuts and next swipe takes to the dialler / contacts screen. Main features of the phone like calling / texting were good but once again the onscreen keyboard in a small sized screen might be slightly tough. But the touch (multi-touch capacitive touch screen) was quite smooth and easy to use.

In addition to the normal productivity apps like alarm, timer, calendar , to-do , Nokia had added extra stuff like What’s app, maps, browser ,email client, exchange server, facebook , twitter and a handful of games (full versions) to spice the deal up as to say. Connectivity wise it has the standard set of bluetooth, wi-fi, USB and 3G.

Multimedia wise it has a 3 MP camera decent enough for the phone screen and in good lighting condition with video recording capability. Music player , Video player and FM radio provided with the phone should help you kill your time on the go. A micro SD card slot will help you fit all your music / videos and photos. Nokia App store should help you get additional apps and games.

At around 5500 INR it is a decent enough touchscreen phone with good calling / messaging features . You can get one for yourself or gift one from here …..
